Memorial services for Lovell M. Slaymaker, 73, Marengo, are 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with Rev. the Lisa Crow officiating.

Interment will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the church. A memorial fund has been established.

Mrs. Slaymaker passed away Wednesday, July 19.

Lovell Marie Starkweather was born Jan. 5, 1944 in Amana, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy and Nora Stanton Starkweather. She attended and graduated from the Marengo schools and married Donald Slaymaker on Sept. 24, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo; he died in 2016.

Lovell worked as a job coordinator with REA—Rural Employment Alternatives in Conroy.

Lovell loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. She looked forward to family vacations and visits from the great grand dogs, Shadow and Jacky.

Lovell is survived by a daughter, Lanette Martinson, Euless, Texas; two sons, Steven (Lori) Slaymaker, Marengo, and Jeffrey (Kim) Slaymaker, Belle Plaine; five grandchildren, Kaitlin Martinson, Euless, Texas, Rachel Slaymaker, Cedar Rapids, Gretchen Slaymaker, Marengo, and Tyler Hartz and Zacary Slaymaker, Belle Plaine; and three sisters, Violet Anderson (Marvin), June Schwertfeger and Rose Frondle, all of Marengo.

Lovell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, a sister, and five brothers.
