Funeral Mass for Mary C. Possehl, 98, Williamsburg, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She died Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg.

Fr. David Wilkening will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg, where there will be a prayer service at 4 pm.

Memorials may be made for St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society or Highland Ridge Activity Fund.

Mary Celesta Possehl was born June 13, 1918, in Marengo, the daughter of Clinton and Mary A. (McGivern) McMann. She grew up in the Marengo community and attended rural Iowa county schools.
She married Carl William Possehl on Sept. 19 1935, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. She was a homemaker and helped Carl on the farm. They farmed north of Marengo from 1935-1941, then moved to a farm outside of Williamsburg and in 1973 they moved into Williamsburg. In her later years she worked at Williamsburg Care Center and had a custodial service in the Williamsburg area.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg, and was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family, baking Blarney Stone cake, cookies, playing cards and singing.

Possehl is survived by a son, James (Mary) Possehl, Williamsburg; a daughter, Doris Kenney, Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Possehl, Williamsburg, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1990; her parents; son, Dean, in 2011; a great-great-grandson; a son-in-law, Gary Kenney, and seven brothers, Edward, Vincent, Joseph, Urban, Francis, James and Paul McMann.
