Celebration of life service for Dorothy S. Garringer, 91, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 8, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. She died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at her home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg.

Burial will be in Yankee Point Cemetery, rural North English.

Memorials are for St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Dorothy Sophia Garringer was born July 31, 1925, in Marengo, the daughter of August and Anna (Kleinmeyer) Fritz. She attended Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg.

She married Donald Lester Garringer on Nov. 22, 1943, in Marengo. They had six children. They later divorced. She lived her whole life in the Iowa County area. She worked for Amana Refrigeration for 35 years and was an active volunteer for HACAP and Highland Ridge Retirement Community, for which she received the Iowa Governors Volunteer Award.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed taking part in activities and was a member of the Machinist Union Lodge 1526. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, working in the yard, going for walks and playing solitaire.

Garringer is survived by six children, Donna (Glen) Salyer, Andalusia, Ala.; John (Helen) Garringer, Van Horne; Marie (John) Eberhardt, Montrose; Alan Garringer, North English; Rand (Sharry) Garringer, Marengo, and Jayne (Alex) Garcia, North English; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Verne Bendorf, of Tennessee, and a sister, Judy Lawson, Marengo.
