Douglas Robert Croft, 88, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, IA.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Koszta Cemetery, Koszta, IA with Military Honors.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service and will continue one hour prior to service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.hrabakfuneralhome.com .
Doug was born April 24, 1929 to Scott W. and Bessie (Wall) Croft on the family farm south of Belle Plaine.
He attended Honey Creek No 10 through the 8th grade and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1948. After graduation, he farmed with his dad until he was drafted to serve in the Korean War. He served in the US Army at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska from May 1951 until March 1953. After returning home, he continued to farm with his father and eventually took over the farming operation until his retirement in 1998.
Doug was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 39, Belle Plaine and Koszta Methodist Church.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, trapping, bowling, and playing the fiddle and harmonica. In his later years, you could find him going to local Blue Grass music gatherings and spending time at the Lincoln Cafe’.
Doug will be remembered by his quick wit and humor.
Doug is survived by nieces and nephews, Deborah Croft of Grand Island, NE, Randy (Kris) Croft of Springville, Diane (Bill) Weber of Holiday Lake, Denise (Larry) Weeda of Belle Plaine, Scott (Julie) Croft of Belle Plaine; sister-in-law, Joan Croft of Belle Plaine; and many great and great-great nieces, nephews and friends.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Scott Jr. in 1997.
