HEDRICK-Everett Dean Pilkington, 87, of rural Hedrick, died at 7:15 p.m. April 8, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born July 8, 1929 in Sigourney to Ralph and Bessie Dick Pilkington. He married Joan Meeks on June 21, 1956 in Sigourney.

Everett was a 1947 graduate of Hedrick High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as an aircraft mechanic.

He had worked for Van Zetten Implement Co. in Ottumwa, Rouw AC, Rely Tractor, Ford Garage in Sigourney and Oldsmobile in Oskaloosa. He was an instructor at Indian Hills Community College for the Agriculture Mechanic Division for 22 years, retiring in 1992. He then continued in farming through his retirement.

Everett loved camping at the Iowa State Fair, playing steel guitar in the Silver Strings Band, woodworking and attending auctions. He operated the popcorn stand at the roller hockey events in Delta.

Surviving is his wife, Joan; his children, Dan Lee (Gail) Pilkington of Sigourney, Linda Sue (Greg) Miller of Indianola, Don Dean Pilkington of North English, Phyllis Ann (Jim) Fairchild of Delta; daughter-in-law, Vida Pilkington of Belle Plaine; 9 grandchildren, Trent (Kim) Pilkington, Whitney Miller, Ashley (Dillon) Brandt, Kelsey (Branden) Bloom, James Pilkington, Kayla Pilkington, Kyle (Tyanda) Fairchild, Kaitlyn (Luke) Brown and Kassandra (Tyler) Taft; 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph (Cheryl) Pilkington of Albion, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick with military services conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
