Ronald "Ron" Lee Coleman, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Mercy Hallmar. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Father Chris Podhajsky. Committal service: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.

Ron is survived by his wife, Rosemary Coleman of Cedar Rapids; four children, Theresa (David) Thompson of Van Horne, Duane Coleman of St. Louis, Mo., Michael (Suzanne) Coleman of Cedar Rapids and Laura (Todd) Henderson of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Ben Thompson, Beth Thompson, Gabrielle Coleman, Sarah Beth Coleman, Marcus Coleman, Jessica Henderson and Dylan Henderson; brother, Russell (Cathy) Coleman of Williamsburg; sister-in-law, Shirley Oltmann of Anamosa; and several loving nieces and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

Ronald was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Omaha, Neb., the son of Raymond and Evangeline (Smith) Coleman. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1955. On Feb. 7, 1959, in Coggon, Ron married Rosemary Hildebrand. For 37 1/2 years, he worked at Collins Radio, now Rockwell, in the photo etching department.

Ron was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 909, Mound View Neighborhood Association and the Tara Hills Country Club in Van Horne.

Ron was a loyal die-hard fan of the Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Cardinals. He loved going to baseball games, including traveling for 13 years with his brother to Florida to watch spring training. Ron enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, music and dancing.

Ron was a humble gentleman, as well as a loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Mercy and the staff and residents at Hallmar for their care and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be designated later.
