Grace D. Street, 99, left this earth to be with her husband, her parents, family and friends on Friday, March 15, 2017. She was born in Aberdeen, S.D., March 2, 1918, the daughter of Fred and Julia (Smith) Hohensee. She lived a few years in St. Louis, Mo., and moved to Marengo in 1927. She was a member of the MHS basketball team and graduated from Marengo High School in 1936.

After graduating from high school, she worked briefly at the Colony Inn, Amana, and then moved to Chicago, Ill., where she lived for 25 years, working for ATT Telephone Company.

She married Frank R. (Duke) Street Oct. 15, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church parsonage in Marengo. He died in 1987. They briefly lived in Miami, Fla., then moved to California in the 1960s because of the drier climate there, where they both completed their lives.

Street is survived by three sons, Tom (Carol), Torrance, Calif.; Fred and Ted, both Chino, Calif.; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Jim) Hornbuckle, Dana Point, Calif.; Amy (William) Avery, Las Vegas, Nev., and Clair Street, Torrance; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank, Hohensee; one sister, Betty Jane Davis, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Fred Hohensee, and sisters, Charlotte Moore and Margaret Hoyle.
