Richard (Rick) Heitmann, 65, Sparks, Nev., died suddenly on Feb. 6, 2017. He suffered from COPD, and other health issues. Burial will be in Iowa with private funeral service to be held at a later date.

Richard Allan Heitmann was born Aug. 30, 1951, in Grinnell, the son of Karl William Heitmann and Arlene Frances (DeVilder) Heitmann. He attended school at St. John’s Catholic School, Victor, and graduated from HLV High School, Victor, in 1969. He attended United Electronics Institute in Des Moines, after which he enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1971 to 1973.

He lived in several different states following the construction business, eventually moving to Las Vegas where he met and married Judy Peyton in 1993. The couple eventually moved to Reno, Nev. While in Las Vegas working on a large construction project, he suffered a serious work-related injury. Unable to go back to major construction work physically, Richard honed his talent at woodworking and finish work in the housing market until he retired. Heitmann is survived by his wife Judy, Sparks; his mother, Arlene Heitmann, Middle Amana; one brother, Ronald (Deb) Heitmann, South Amana; one sister Rhonda (Steve) McCombs, Petersburg, Ill., and one niece Elise Heitmann, Amana.

He was proceeded in death by his father, in 2002; an infant nephew, Ryan McCombs, in 1986; his father-in-law, Clarence Houtz, in 1969, and his mother-in-law, Hazel Houtz, in 1993.
