Funeral service for Charles “Charlie” A. Lortz, 87, Millersburg, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Millersburg United Methodist Church in Millersburg. He died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. Michelle Williamson and Rev. Kirk Statler will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for For The Nations.

Charles “Charlie” Alfred Lortz was born July 13, 1929, near Millersburg, the son of George Alfred and Mabel Pearl (Montross) Lortz. He graduated from Millersburg High School.

He married Beulah Wyant on March 29, 1951, in Kirksville, Mo. They made their home in the Millersburg community where Charlie farmed until 1986. They then moved to Iowa City where he worked at the University of Iowa until retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, traveling, watching the Chicago Cubs and all things Hawkeye.

Lortz is survived by his wife, Beulah, Iowa City; five children, Cindy (Mike) Ewen, Davenport; Jeff Lortz, Marengo; Becky (Jim) Risdon, Marengo; Christine “Bub” (Randy) Folkmann, Parnell, and David (Elaine) Lortz, Marion; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Georgia Warner, North English.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah Schultz; a grandson, Jason Schultz, and two sisters, Katheryn Orr and LaDean Haack.
