LOCATION: Marengo and formerly of Victor, Iowa

Margaret Landuyt, age 91, of Marengo and formerly of Victor, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo with her family by her side.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn with Fr. Corey Close presiding. Pallbearers are her grandchildren, Russell Landuyt, Brian Herzberg, Tom Moss, Eric Landuyt, Vince Thede, and Chad Landuyt. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home and the family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be designated to the Margaret Landuyt Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347. Condolences may be shared with her family online at www.smithfh.com .

Margaret Louise DeVilder was born the daughter of Edward and Helen (Herbrant) DeVilder on January 20, 1925, in Brooklyn, Iowa. She was raised on family farm near Brooklyn and attended country school until the 8th grade.

Margaret was united in marriage to Charly Landuyt on June 20, 1942, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The couple farmed north of Hartwick for many years. In 1982, they retired from farming and moved to Victor to make their home. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Margaret enjoyed life on the family farm and raising her six children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving word searches, playing card games and rolle bolle, dancing, and embroidering. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and for being strong-willed, caring, and someone who always helped others.

Margaret is survived by her children, Betty (Bob) O'Mara of Cedar Rapids, IA, Charles (Patricia) Landuyt of Solon, IA, Camiel (Marcia) Landuyt of Grinnell, IA, Beverly (Bill) Bartachek of Chelsea, IA, Calvin (Cindy) Landuyt of Chelsea, and Brenda (Dennis) Herzberg of Marengo; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charly in 2005; brothers, Fred, Leonard, Raymond and Melvin DeVilder; and sisters, Lorraine Swanson, Evelyn Siebel, and Rosemarie DeVilder in infancy.
