Donald Slaymaker, age 85 of Marengo, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo, with Pastor Lisa Crow officiating. Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo. Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016, until service time. A memorial fund has been established.

Donald is survived by his wife Lovell; a daughter Lanette Martinson of Euless, Texas; two sons Steven (Lori) Slaymaker of Marengo and Jeffrey (Kim) Slaymaker of Belle Plaine; six grandchildren Jason Harrelson, Kaitlin Martinson, Rachel Slaymaker, Gretchen Slaymaker, Tyler Hartz and Zacary Slaymaker; and a brother Marvin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers Dean, Melvin and Richard.

Donald was born August 3, 1931 in Kostza, the son of McClellan and Kathrine Hartz Slaymaker. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1949. He attended the Iowa Barber College and received his degree.

On September 24, 1961, Donald married Lovell Marie Starkweather at the First United Methodist Church in Marengo.

Donald was a barber for 66 years and worked at Amana Refrigeration for 25 years. He enjoyed bird watching, racing and traveling. He loved attending the grandchildren’s sporting activities.
