Mary Frances “Frankie” Honn, age 73, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, Iowa, with Fr. Joe Roost and Fr. Edmund Dunn officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with a Vigil Service at 4 p.m. Burial: Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.

Frankie is survived by her husband Jim; three children, Jennifer Sandersfeld (Shawn), Middle Amana, Amy Kalinchuk (Israel) Denver, CO, and Tim (fiancé Jess Beswick) Coralville; and nine grandchildren Erich (Kari) of Nashville, TN, Hannah, Gunther, Berend, Jürgen, Anton, Reiner and Otto Sandersfeld of Middle Amana, and Kira Kalinchuk of Denver, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Shirley Frees.

Mary Frances “Frankie” Specht was born March 22, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore “Ted” and Sadie Barnes Specht. She graduated from Oxford High School in 1961 and attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Cedar Rapids. She married Jim Honn on November 14, 1964 in Oxford. Frankie was a registered nurse. Her employment over the years include the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, the Marengo Hospital, the Amana Clinic, Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. She also did private duty nursing for the county hospitals in Detroit, MI and Beaver, PA. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Frankie will be dearly missed by all who knew her, as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was kind and fun; a joy to be around. She enjoyed antiques, traveling, playing bridge, and decorating. She loved spending time laughing with her many friends and family, hosting family dinners, and she especially loved her grandchildren.
