Ruth L. Ehrmann, age 89, died Friday, June 10, 2016 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, in Marengo. Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with Rev. Anni Mingin officiating. Burial will be in the West Amana Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Rose Haven Nursing Home,or the First Presbyterian Church, both of Marengo, or Essence of Life Hospice, Amana.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Debra Ehrmann of Grinnell; her son Jeffrey (Barbara) Ehrmann of Bettendorf; two grandchildren, James (Kelly) Ehrmann of Seattle, WA, and Timothy Ehrmann of Dubuque; and a great-granddaughter Heidi Ehrmann. Also surviving are a brother, Donald (Delores) Meyer of Middle Amana and two sisters, Marie Ruegsegger of Atkins and Delores Walters of Wayland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George in 2013, and a brother Richard Meyer.

Ruth Lillian Meyer was born April 10, 1927 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Frances Coufal Meyer. She received her education in the Amana School system and graduated from the Amana High School in 1944. Ruth and George F. Ehrmann were married on April 24, 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. The couple made their home in Amana. Ruth was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. Over the years she taught Sunday school, was involved with the Morning Circle, was always available for prayer groups, and to serve the less fortunate in the congregation and the community.

While her children were in school she served as a Campfire Girl leader and was active in the Cub Scouts. She was generous with her time to insure her children were able to participate in a wide variety of activities as they were growing up. Her first love was always her family.

Ruth believed in the educational value of seeing the country and planned yearly vacations to destinations across the United States. She also enjoyed annual trips to Florida with her husband George. Gardening was a passion for her as well as reading, and her artistic vision could be witnessed in her needlework and embroidery projects. She was a magnificent and creative cook.

Ruth will be remembered for her kindness, her beauty, and the grace with which she handled every aspect of life. She was above all “a good person”.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Rose Haven Nursing Home and Essence of Life Hospice for the kind and compassionate care that was provided to Mom and Oma during her time in their care.
