Chester C. Pearson, age 91 of Marion, formerly of Ladora and Marengo, died Friday, April 22, 2016 at The Village Ridge in Marion.

Funeral Services: 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 26, 2016, Valley View Baptist Church, 5555 Mount Vernon Rd SE, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Marengo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 6 P.M. Monday, April 25, 2016 at the church.

Memorials may be contributed to the Church of the Nazarene, Marengo. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore of The Village Ridge, Marion; two daughters, Amy Scofield (Rick) of The Villages, FL, and Kathy Pettus (Ed) of Hiawatha; five grandchildren, Tracey Eickstaedt (Troy) of Tallahassee, FL, Amber Howell (Donovan) of Tallahassee, FL, Shane Scofield (Ashley) of Bristow, VA, Edward Pettus IV (Lani) of Cedar Rapids and Michael Pettus of Cedar Rapids; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Clyde, and a sister Erma Snider.

Chester Claytes Pearson was born February 7, 1925 in Searsboro, Iowa, the son of John and Alta Pearl Holcomb Pearson. He graduated from New Sharon High School in 1944 and proudly served in the United States Army for two years during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery.

He and Lenore Lucille Herman were united in marriage on December 21, 1946 in Marengo, Iowa.

The couple farmed for many years outside of Ladora. He also worked for many years with Gorsh Roofing of Victor.

How appropriate for a man who worked and loved the land to leave this world on Earth Day. Chester had a passion for farming, gardening, sharing canned goods, watermelons, black raspberries, morel mushrooms, hickory nuts, apples and vegetables. He loved to sing, eat popcorn, orange slices, ice cream by the bucket, and bread and milk. He enjoyed family, putting together puzzles and playing Chinese checkers and monopoly with his girls. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
