Robert Wayne Fisher was born May 5, 1928 in rural Parnell, Iowa, the son of Orlo C. and Amanda (Kauffman) Fisher. He graduated 8th grade at Hickory Grove School.

On May 31, 1951 Robert was united in marriage to Gladys Kathleen Bender at East Union Mennonite Church. Robert has lived in the Kalona and Wellman area his entire life. Gladys and Robert lived in La Junta, Colorado for two years while he was in voluntary service. Upon returning home, Robert farmed for 17 years and drove truck for Yoder Feeds for 18 years.

During his retirement Robert helped local farmers hauling grain during harvest. Which he enjoyed this very much as he was able to meet and visit with many people and make new friends. He also enjoyed wood working.

He was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, an active member of MDS, and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Texas. Robert was a founding and life-time member of the Washington Township Optimist Club since 1972 and held numerous offices in the local chapter. He was a member of Farm Bureau and held numerous offices including the Johnson County presidency.

During his tenure he and Gladys were able to travel to Belgium and Ireland for Farm Bureau.

Robert passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona after a long battle with cancer at the age of 87 years.

Robert is survived by his wife Gladys of Kalona, six children: Marvin (Vickie) Fisher of Wichita, KS; Grace (Jim) Tully of Iowa City, Sara (Glenn) Brown of Iowa City, Peggy (John) Heins of Iowa City, Ralph (Cindy) Fisher of Wellman and Mary Anderson of Hiawatha; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister Ruth Fisher of Wellman and a brother Orlo (Dorothy) Fisher of Talcum, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents an infant son; grandparents Sam and Mary Fisher and Blind Jake and Mary Kauffman.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Erling Shultz will officiate. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-8 PM on Monday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona where the family will greet friends from 1-4 and 6-8 PM. A general memorial fund has been established.
