Janet was born July 19, 1931, the daughter of Vernon and Mildred [Pope] Bauer in Millersburg, Iowa. After graduating from Millersburg High School she attended the American Institute of Business in Davenport, IA, and played basketball for one year on their team. Jan reported that was the most fun and interesting experience of her college years. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1954. Her Master’s degree was completed at the University of Northern Iowa. She taught for twenty years at Grundy Center High School. It was there where she met her husband. They were married in Ackley, Iowa on November 26, 1957 and enjoyed life together for fifty-five years before Chucks passing.

Golf was Janet’s passion. After retirement they moved to Mesa, Arizona and later to Sun City, Las Vegas where they lived for 19 years. She was an active member of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic church where she served as a Eucharistic minister.

Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and two brothers, Charles and William Bauer. She is survived by a sister, Joan Bouslog of Marion, Iowa and a brother Philip Bauer of Decatur, Illinois and nieces and nephews; Jim Bouslog (Cindi Rudish), Sue Dawson (Bill), Jeff Bouslog (Shawn), Scott Bouslog, Mary Wildes (Warren), Robert Stevens (Pat) and three special friends, Debra Tharp of Marshalltown, Janis Lunde and Merrilu Sloboda of Las Vegas, NV.

Jan was a loving and devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend. We will all miss her wonderful sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
