Christopher K. Ryan, 70, of Arequipa, Peru, died on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in his home.

Christopher was born on Dec. 1, 1945 in Belle Plaine, IA to Wayne and Ruth Ryan. He was raised on a farm west of Hartwick, IA and was baptized and confirmed in the Hartwick Congregational Church. Chris graduated from HLV High School, Victor, IA with the class of 1963.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics from Iowa State University in 1968. He received a Doctor of Philosophy from Iowa State University in 1985. Chris served in the Peace Corps from 1969 to 1971 in Peru. Chris Taught economics at several colleges and universities throughout the states.

On Jan. 10, 1981, he was united in marriage to Helen Clark in Iowa City, IA. The family lived in Iowa City until 2002, when they moved to Arequipa, Peru and have resided there ever since. He and Helen have been instrumental in maintaining and cataloging the colonial Spanish library at the Convento de la Recoleta in Arequipa.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Ryan of Arequipa, one brother Stevan (Gretchen) Ryan of Olathe, KS: three sisters Jeanette (Darrell) Keller of Oklahoma City, OK, Phyllis (Robert) Jackson of Haddonfield, NJ and Lynn (Van) Youngman of Philadelphia, PA: one stepson John Clark (Joy) of San Diego, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
