West Branch, Iowa

Patricia Anne Sandersfeld (O’Connell), 78, of West Branch, died Monday night, February 29, 2016 at Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch, IA.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 4th from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Funeral service will be 10 A.M. Saturday, March 5th at Bethany Lutheran Church, West Branch. A luncheon will follow the service. Private family burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg.

Pat was the daughter of Parker and Mildred (Burse) Larimer and was born in their home, along with her twin brother, on April 22, 1937 in Oxford, IA. She attended and graduated from Oxford High School.

Pat met her soul mate, Verne Sandersfeld, later in the year of 1956 and they were engaged in 1957 and married January 9, 1959. Verne, Pat and Carla moved to Williamsburg and started their lives there where they lived for many years until moving to West Branch to be closer to their grandchildren.

Pat was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in West Branch and worked at UHIC for over 25 years in housekeeping and the parking department. She retired early to care for her husband. They were married for 39 years at the time of his death. She loved taking care of her family and was known for her kind heart and whirlwind cleaning and organization ability.

She enjoyed quilting at church, IC Senior Center, gardening, baking, playing cards and was a puzzle maniac. She LOVED the Hawkeyes, The Cubbies and most of all spending time with Curt & Carla, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She moved into her daughter and son–in laws home for 1½ years before residing at Crestview for 15 months until her death. She loved her Crestview family and was known by all as the puzzle lady.

She was a strong, spunky, funny, loving and stubborn lady who always thought of others before ever thinking of herself. She never knew a stranger and anyone that ever knew her will miss her.

Special thanks to Dr.Feeley, Dr. Novak, Care Initiatives Hospice, Crestview Specialty Care Center and Pastor Chad Whaley.
