Zelda Arlene Collins was born on December 5, 1926, near Barnes City, IA the daughter of Charles W. And Anna Belle Moore Middlekauff. She graduated from Keswick High School in 1946 and attended Beauty School in Cedar Rapids. While in Beauty School, Zelda worked at Quaker Oats. She then operated a beauty shop in Keswick for a short time.

She was united in marriage to James Charles Collins on January 7, 1950 in Sigourney. They farmed one year near Sigourney before farming north of Keswick.

Zelda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Keswick, the Springdale Ladies Aid, the Martha Circle and the Keswick Garden Club.

Her family was her greatest joy. She liked cooking, canning, her crafts and for many years baking wedding and anniversary cakes for others.

James preceded her in death in March 1995.

She is survived by 5 children: Anita Von Ahsen (Keith) of Williamsburg, IA; Ronald Collins (Janis) of What Cheer, IA: Barbara Schwarting (Rick) of Atkins, IA; Alan Collins (Deanna) of Ames, IA; and Cheryl Smithson (Tom) of Altoona, IA; 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; a twin sister Velda Holthus of Fairfield, IA; brothers Harlan Middlekauff of What Cheer, IA and Gerald Middlekauff of Merced, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a granddaughter Melissa Kay Von Ahsen, sister Myrle Draegert, brothers Walter (Pete), Willie, Charles (Elmer)and John (Leonard) Middlekauff.

Zelda Arlene Collins, age 80, died following a lengthy illness on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Keswick at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 8, 2007, with the Rev. Richard Sperring officiating. Burial will be in the Sorden Cemetery near Webster. Visitation will be on Friday, September 7, 2007, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English.

A general memorial fund has been established.
