Marengo

Wayne Earl Heitman, 66, of Marengo, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from complications of lymphoma. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo, with Pastor Tim Miller and Pastor Bob Loffer officiating. Burial will be in Genoa Bluff Cemetery, rural Ladora. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Trinity United Church of Christ or Safe Haven of Iowa County.

Wayne was born on Sept. 20, 1949, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Alma Weisskopf Heitman. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1968 and worked for a time at FS in Williamsburg. He then joined his father and brother in the farming business in rural Marengo. Wayne was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, was Sunday school treasurer, a church trustee and sang in the church choir. He enjoyed music and also sang with Keyboard Ed at area nursing homes. He helped deliver meals for Marengo Senior Dining for a number of years. Wayne was a member of the Pilot

4-H Club, exhibiting beef at the Iowa County Fair and attending both the county and the state fair was a yearly highlight. He was on the board of directors for the Iowa County Farm Bureau. A favorite pastime was attending Williams-burg High School sporting events. Wayne was devoted to his loyal dogs, Hobo and Lassie, who now are gone, but never forgotten.

Wayne is survived by his sisters, Joan Hunt of Blakesburg, Karen (Dave) Ramsey of Williamsburg, Zelda (Dick) Sherman of Ely, Phyllis (Ed) Begunck of Williamsburg and Alice (Lee) White of Ankeny; a sister-in-law, Alice J. Heitman of Williamsburg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and John; and a sister, Linda Hotz Roberts.
