C. Milo Cobb, 95, died peacefully Thursday, Aug.6, 2015, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.Monday, Aug. 10, at St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton, with Father David Ambrosy as celebrant.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and for one hour before Mass at the church on Monday. Inurnment will be in the North English Cemetery at a later date.

Clarence Milo Cobb was born July 5, 1920, in rural North English, the son of S.S. (Vanus) and Lila Hardy Carter Cobb. Milo attended country school but left school to work on the family farm. Following the death of his father when Milo was 16, he took responsibility for helping his widowed mother, instilling in him a strong work ethic that lasted his entire life.

On March 8, 1943, he married Nellie Van Dee at Armah Catholic Church, rural North English. At age 40, Milo uprooted his family and moved to Vinton to become a Moorman Feed salesman for this area, retiring in 1985.

He was a longtime member of St. Mary' s Catholic Church in Vinton and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Milo enjoyed playing cards, fishing, Cubs baseball, gardening, golf and the Tuesday morning Cedarview coffee group, but his favorite activity was spending time with family and following his grandkids' sports and activities.

Milo is survived by his wife of 72 years, Nellie, Vinton; five children, Janet (Dr. Alan) Woodhouse, Vinton, Eldron (Chris) Cobb, Atlanta, Ga., Chris Galligan, Cedar Rapids, Theresa (David) Jones, Tampa, Fla., and Holly (David) Roseberg, Columbia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 14 3/4 greatgrandchildren; brother, Glen (Hazel) Cobb, North English; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Vincent; four brothers, Pat Carter, Estill, Ray and Ty Cobb; and two sisters, Mickie Ballard and Aline Wallace.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home is caring for Milo and his family.
