Arnold Lloyd Baier, the son of Randall Duane and Phyllis Opal (Pelzer) Baier, was born Sept. 21, 1948, in Creston, Iowa. He died at his home in Victor of an apparent heart attack at the age of 67 years.

Arnold began school at rural Mayflower, south of Cumberland, Iowa, in September 1953. In 1955, the Baier family moved to their farm in Noble Township and he began attending Griswold Community Schools. While in school, he was active in 4-H and FFA. He also was active in sports and played the trombone in the band. Arnold graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1966. After graduating, he attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, where he graduated in 1970 with his bachelor's degree in math.

Arnold began his teaching career at Fox Valley Schools in Milton, Iowa. He taught math and coached girls basketball for several years. He began working at Orient-Macksburg where he also coached girls basketball and softball. While working at English Valley Schools in North English, Arnold completed his M.B.A. degree from the University of Iowa. Arnold taught at Eddyville School, Allison Bristow School, Deep River-Millersburg School, before going to work for Sabine Shipping Company in Cedar Rapids.

While working for Sabine Shipping, Arnold traveled to shipping ports in New York and New Orleans, where he was in charge of putting shipping crews together. Arnold eventually returned to the teaching profession and retired from BGM Schools in Brooklyn, Iowa, in June of this year.

Arnold always enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. A successful hunt to him was a good walk through the timber with his dog.

Arnold was a member of the Noble United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother-in-law, Craig Keast.

He is survived by his parents, Randall and Phyllis Baier of Atlantic; his brothers, Steve Baier and wife Barbara of Griswold and Kelly Baier and wife Shelly of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Kristin Keast of Mount Vernon; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Baier Holst and husband Dave, Frederick (Fritz) Baier and wife Melisa, Kate Beenken and husband Lucas, Sam Baier, Aaron Keast, Eliza Easker and husband David, and Gabriel Keast.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Noble Center Cemetery 2 miles south of Lyman.

Memorials will be designated at a later time.

Duhn Funeral Home of Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
