Celebration of life for Martha Paul, 66, Kirkland, Wash., will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 22, in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, Marengo. She died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, following a long illness.

The Neptune Society is serving the family. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Martha Jean Foster was born July 28, 1949, in Marengo, the daughter of Harry and Dorothy Casteel Foster. She graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1967,

She married Dennis L. Paul, Cedar Rapids, on July 23, 1967. They lived in several homes while he served in the U.S. Army, then returned to Cedar Rapids to start a family. They later moved to Des Moines and then to Kirkland, Wash.

She enjoyed playing bunco with her friends, was active in the Evergreen Hospital Auxiliary and was involved with the parents' associations at her children's schools. She enjoyed cooking, especially trying new recipes, and decorating cakes for her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, doing crossword puzzles and caring for her grandchildren.

Paul is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dennis Paul Kirkland; one daughter, Aaren Polderman (Larry) Gockel, Bellevue, Wash.; two sons, Christopher Paul, Seattle, Wash., and Tyler (Sabrina) Paul, Kirkland; granddaughters, Ariana and Liliana Paul, Seattle; brothers, David (Nancy) Foster, Marion, and Harry R. (Wendy) Foster, Cedar Rapids; sisters, Julia Foster, Marengo; Alice (Bob) Weber, Jesup; Lori Foster (Dennis Ades), Springville; Amy Foster, Cedar Rapids; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as special friends, Loren Deetz and Terri Deetz, Iowa City, and Sandra (Rick) Thorington, Cedar Rpaids.

She was preceded in death by her parens; her grandparents; a sister, Kristen Foster, in infancy, and special friend, Jeanette Deetz.
