Hilda Driscoll, 95

Funeral Mass for Hilda G. Driscoll, 95, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Williamsburg. She died on the morning of Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Hilda Gertrude Driscoll was born Dec. 6, 1919, near Watkins in Benton County, the youngest of five children born to Joseph Charles and Gertrude (Schmuecker) Schmidt. She attended schools at Norway, graduating from Norway High School. She was employed at Watkins Savings Bank and Armstrong’s Department Store, Cedar Rapids.

She married Vincent Edmund Driscoll Oct. 20, 1943, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Watkins. The new couple made their home in Williamsburg, where she worked for Smith Motor and with her husband, Vinnie, and her sister, Pauline, at the Little Chicago Cafe.

Later, she established Hilda’s Photography and Flowers, working as a professional photographer and florist. He received many awards for her photography.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a past member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Order of Catholic Foresters. She enjoyed her family and antiques and worked with ceramics in her later years.

In failing health for a number of years, she was cared for at Highland Ridge Care Center and the English Valley Care Center. The family thanks those who helped care for Hilda.

Driscoll is survived by her children, Daniel (Janet), Iowa City; Diana (Jamie) Yoss, Ankeny, and David (Joleen), Williamsburg; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1987; her parents; two brothers, Paul and Zeno Schmidt, and two sisters, Leova Arp and Pauline Lillis.
