Floyd George Pegump, 65, of Homestead, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at Mercy Iowa City due to complications from a fall. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private graveside services with military honors will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene J. Pegump of Homestead; his daughter, Danette (Nate) Bernacki of Tiffin; his son, Corey (Amy) Pegump of Oxford; his grandchildren, Rachel, Emily, Ashley, Ethan and Cole; and his siblings, Steve (Cindy) Pegump, Shirley (John) Long, John (Connie) Pegump, Harold Pegump, Gary (Deb) Pegump and Lisa Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Nikki Lynn Pegump; special nephew, Jim E. Becicka; and brother-in-law, Steve Larson.

Floyd was born Feb. 25, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Frank and Lisette (Rettig) Pegump. He graduated from College Community Schools in 1968. Floyd served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1970. He married Marlene J. Becicka on Aug. 21, 1971, in Cedar Rapids.

Floyd was the director of buildings and grounds at College Community Schools and later worked at J.C. Penney as a maintenance supervisor, retiring as a maintenance mechanic from the University of Iowa. Floyd was a member of the Oxford American Legion Post 537. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casino, but he especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's competitions and athletic events. His kindness, quick sense of humor and words of encouragement will be deeply missed.
