Memorial service for Luella F. Singleton, 89, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, at the Presbyterian Church, Marengo. She died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at the home of her son, Hugh Singleton, Las Vegas, Nev.

The Rev. Anni Mingin will officiate at the service.

There will be no burial due to cremation.

Memorials may be made to the Marengo Presbyterian Church.

Luella Francine Singleton was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Keokuk County, the daughter of Hugh and Luella (Selck) Kirkpatrick. She was raised on a farm in the Parnell area and attended Parnell Catholic School until the winter of 1943-44.

She married Dale C. Singleton in 1944. After marriage, she was a wife, mother and homemaker. She lived in Iowa for the majority of her life, with the exception of when she was in Norfolk, Va., while her husband served in the United States Marines at the end of World War II.

When her children were old enough that they did not require her constant attention, she worked at several jobs, including the Amana Woolen Mills and Collins Radio, from which she retired. After retiring, she devoted a lot of her time teaching Sunday school to younger children, delivering meals for the Senior Center, driving people to appointments, etc. and visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Singleton is survived by her five children, Wayne (Jana) Singleton, Lincoln, Neb.; Hugh (Merlinda) Singleton, Las Vegas, Nev.; Donald (Karen) Singleton, Iowa; James Singleton, Cedar Rapids, and Irene (Don) Rhodes, Jacksonville, Fla.; numerous grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and of course, many friends.
