CEDAR RAPIDS -- Irma I. Schweitzer, 81, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, in the care center following a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Bethany Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Joe Polzin. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include three sisters, Theresa Martinson of Williamsburg and Pearl Kiesling and Lillian (Roy) Dochterman, both of Cedar Rapids; 14 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 12 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert; five brothers, John, Paul, Hilbert, Herman and David; and a sister, Alvina Schwarting.

Irma was born May 15, 1923, the daughter of Herman and Henrietta Eschenberg Schwarting in Iowa County, Iowa. On Jan. 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Albert Schweitzer. He died April 20, 2003. For 25 years, Irma worked as a professional employment counselor for private and state agencies. She was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, where she served as a choir member, cashier and evangelist card ministry.

Irma touched many lives and ministered to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to Faith In Action, Ankylosing-Spondylitis Foundation or Bethany Lutheran Church in memory of Irma.
