Sherma Oliphant, nee Simmons, 79, passed away Oct. 17, 2014.

She was the beloved wife of the late Louis Oliphant; loving mom of David (Gail) and Kimberly (Mark); loving grandmother of Michael and Nicholas.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home, Center Point. Burial is 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Oliphant Cemetery.

Funeral service for Sherma L. Oliphant, 79, formerly of Marengo, was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2014, near Chicago, Ill., following a year-long battle with Krutzfeldt-Jacob disease.

Burial was at Oliphant Cemetery, Center Point, where she was laid to rest next to her husband, Louis W. Oliphant.

Sherma L. Oliphant was born Nov. 9, 1934, the daughter of Elmer and Charlene (Goodman) Simmons. She was raised in Marengo and graduated from Marengo High School in 1953.

She married Louis W. Oliphant, Center Point, Feb. 3, 1955. The couple had two children.

Oliphant is survived by her children, David (Gail) Oliphant and Kimberly (Mark Snider) Oliphant; grandchildren, Michael and Nicolas Oliphant; sisters, Beverly Brecht, Central City; Patsy (Wayne B.) Smith, San Jose, Calif.; Sheryl (Tom) Sandersfeld, Brookings, S.D., and Pam (David) Kircher; one brother, Michael (Linda) Simmons, plus many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1994; her parents, several brothers-in-law and a great-nephew.
