Dale Lenton, 90

On July 4, 2014, Dale Lenton, 90, Beaver Dam, Wis., formerly of Marengo, passed gently into the hands of Jesus in the care and comfort of Hospice Home of Hope, Fond du Lac, Wis.

He was born July 24, 1923, in Blairstown, the son of Clarence and Helen Lenton nee Dickinson.

He proudly served our country as a prisoner of war guard and as a radar technician from June 25, 1945, to Dec. 7, 1946, and had been a member of the Blairstown American Legion for over 50 years.

He married Dorothy Wilkermeyer Aug. 20, 1951. The couple had a wonderful life for 42 years. They were both employed at Le Febure’s, Cedar Rapids, until they retired in 1985. Following retirement, Dale and Dorothy traveled extensively in their RV and enjoying each other’s company.

Dale remained in Iowa for four years following Dorothy’s death. He then moved to Wisconsin to join the life of Doris Bender, nee Wood, also formerly of Blairstown. Dale and Doris were inseparable for the next 17-plus years. The couple also traveled until health and age intervened. He was “Dad” to Sandy Weier, Deb (Rick) Gempeler and Suzie (Doug) Fishbaugher and “Grandpa” to Gloria (Don) Linke, Kevin (Jenny) Weier, Ed (Jamie) Tetzlaff, Carrie (Jon) Tetzlaff, Heath (Janelle) Fishbaugher, Holly (Dave) Belongia and Heide (Mike) Belongia, and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; four brothers, Daniel, Wilbur, Gerald and William; one sister, Hilda Brecht, and one great-niece, Kaitlyn Mumm.

He is survived by his “buddy,” Doris Bender; one sister, Charlotte Brecht; one sister-in-law, Julia Lenton, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

It brought Dale great joy toward the end of his journey that his Iowa family traveled to Wisconsin to see him. Special thanks to Charlotte, Debra (John) Hadenfeldt and Jennifer, Ashlyn and Noah Hadenfeldt. Noah and Ashlyn put a smile on his face that will last through eternity.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with the Rev. Diane Miller officiating. Burial with military honors was held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Home of Hope, 400 County Rd. K, Fond du Lac, Wis. 54935.

Online condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.
