DEREK MICHAEL SMITH

Derek Michael Smith, 5, of Ladora, died April 23 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, as a result of a tractor accident.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. (Dawn) Woodrum Smith. He was born Dec. 8, 1983 at Cedar Rapids and enrolled in pre-school at HLV, Victor.

Michael had been a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Victor, and was baptized June 10, 1984.

Survivors include his parents of Ladora, one sister, Danielle D. Smith at home, his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Eugene (Florine) Smith of Victor, grandfather, Dean Woodrum, Ladora, and his great grandmothers, Mrs. Elsie Smith of Victor and Mrs. Mary Rowcliffe of Williamsburg.

Services were held April 28 at St. James Lutheran Church, Victor, with the Rev. Michael H. Holm officiating. Organist was Vera Beth Bricker, Ladora.

Pall bearers were Brian Chittick of Ladora, Cory Chittick of Ladora, Richard Chittick of Ladora, Steve Smith of Blairstown, Tim Trieschmann of Middle Amana, and Peter J. Williams of West Amana.

Burial was in Victor Memorial Cemetery with McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
