Walter E. Waterbeck,age 94 of Coggon, Iowa, formerly of Brooklyn, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at his home in Coggon.

Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn.

Visitation was 4 to 7 pm. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.

Walter Everett Waterbeck was born Aug. 1, 1919 on the family in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Frank and Maggie Eirp Waterbeck.

He graduated from Hartwick Consolidated High School in 1936 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He returned to Iowa and farmed for many years. He also sold oil for Archer Oil.

Walter married Julia Helen Vavroch on July 11, 1945 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. She passed away March 11, 2004.

He later married Rena Krug in 2005. She passed away in 2007.

Walt enjoyed fishing, and being on the farm. Polka music was his favorite type of music. He liked cooking in the kitchen with Julia, and also spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Later in life he enjoyed going to Milestones in Marion. For the last 6 years, Walt had resided in Coggon with his granddaughter and her family, Patti and Randy LeGrand.

Walter is survived by five sons, Allen and wife Audrey of Chelsea, Marvin of Brooklyn, Bernie and wife Betty of Garwin, Roger and wife Wendy of Chelsea, and Ken of Alburnett; and two daughters, Barbara Hall of Brooklyn and Karen Dahlstrom and husband Roger of Ankeyn; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maggie Eirp Waterbeck, his wife Julia Vavroch Waterbeck, his second wife Ren Krug Waterbeck, a son Robert in infancy, a granddaughter Jennifer, and a daughter-in-law Dora.
