THELMA MELICHAR
Cedar RapidsThelma Norland Melichar, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2014. She was a beloved mother, grand-mother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her three children, Diane Hall (Phil), Tom (Diane) and Bob; her brother, Thor Norland Jr.; and numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, John Melichar; and a brother, Carmen Engelbert, preceded her in death.
Thelma was born on a farm near Conroy, Iowa, on May 14, 1921, to Lina and Thor Norland Sr. After graduation from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Thelma worked as a legal secretary for Barthinius Wick. In the early '40s she recorded two songs: "To You" and "Golden Earrings." She played the piano and always had her home filled with music. In 1948, she married John Melichar. They attended All Saints Catholic Church and were members of the Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids,
Iowa.In 1971, she and her family moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. She loved her family get-togethers and her golf. She enjoyed her bridge groups and leaves behind many friends. Her positive attitude and smile will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to Hospice of the Valley or any no-kill animal shelter.
A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, following the visitation. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd,, Scottsdale.
