BILLIE WRIGHT
Bloomfield

Billie L. Wright, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Bloomfield, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Colonial Manor in Amana.

She was born May 26, 1925, to Frank and Lucia Zabilka Douglas in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She grad-uated from Oskaloosa High School in May 1944 and moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for a short time during World War II. She returned to Oskaloosa, where she met and married her husband, Richard H. Wright of Belle Plaine. Dick was serving in the Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, Fla. When their daughter, Pam, was born, they moved to San Diego, Calif., where Dick was discharged from active duty. They returned to Iowa, where Dick attended law school at the University of Iowa. After law school, they settled in Bloomfield, where their daughter, Jane, was born.

Billie moved to Cedar Rapids after Dick passed away in 1975. She became a full-time employee of Younkers and retired after 15 years in 1993.

Billie lived an active and fun-filled life. She loved bridge, golf and cooking, but most of all, she enjoyed people and was always the life of the party.

Billie was devoted to her family and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

The family would like to express their heart-felt thanks to all the caring staff at Colonial Manor of Amana and her longtime physician, Dr. Melanie Stahlberg.

Survivors include two daughters, Pam (Peter) Stanfiel of Laughlin, Nev., and Jane (Ron) Carson of Swisher; four grandchildren, Heather Stanfiel, Heidi Stanfiel, Billy Carson and Annie Zimmermann; five great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Frances Douglas; her in-laws, Otis and Hilda Wright; and her faithful companions, Smokey, Gidget and Shawna.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Pastor Tim Frasher officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the family present to greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the American Legion in Bloomfield.
