John J. Brawner, 80, of rural Arroyo Grande, Calif., born May 9, 1923, in Williamsburg, Iowa, passed away March 11, 2004, in Mission Garden Care Center, Lompoc, Calif.
John is survived by his wife, LaVonne "Bonnie"; his children, Mike (Joann) Brawner, Shiela (Chuck) Barta, Jerry Brawner, Jan Bodkin, Tim (Francis) Brawner; nine grandchildren, Colleen (Chuck) Randall, Shawn (Carla) Pecinovsky, Brent Bodkin, Chris Brawner, Cindy Brawner, Brenda Bodkin, Sophia (Kevin) Schmidt, Dena Slaman and Mackenzie Bodkin; six great-grandchildren, Cody Randall, Jacob Randall, Alex Randall, Brad Prince-Bodkin, Jean-Baptise Pecinovsky and Dayton Slaman-Teslik; brother, Paul (Vi) Brawner; and sister, Ann Estes.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Eva Brawner; his sister, Mary Jean Cornwall; and brother, Joe Brawner.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Pismo Beach, Calif. Memorial gathering for friends and family to celebrate his life is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the family home, 1825 Pomeroy, Arroyo Grande, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Braille Institute of America, 2031 De La Vina, Santa Barbara, CA.
John enjoyed traveling and family get-togethers and belonged to Martin Retirees Club, Lockheed-Martin Club, UFCW Local 1036 Retirees Club, Saint Maxmillian Kolbe Council No. 8762, St. Louis de Montfort 50+ club and was a longtime member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church
