Lois Johnson, 72

Mass of Christian burial for Lois “Arlene” Johnson, 72, Newhall, was held Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Newhall. She died Dec. 29, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a battle with cancer.

The Rev. Craig Steimel officiated at the service.

Burial will be in Raetz Cemetery near Atkins at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established.

Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com .

Lois “Arlene” Johnson was born Nov. 9, 1941, at Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of George and Mary Ruth (Woods) Knapp. She graduated from Atkins High School. She retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation .

She married Robert Johnson Sept. 23, 1995, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

In her leisure she enjoyed doing arts and crafts, quilting, collecting antiques and playing cards. She most enjoyed spending time with her family.

Johnson is survived by her husband, Robert, Newhall; children, Brenda Glaser, Cedar Rapids; Steve (Cheryl) Butz, Woodbury, Minn.; Patrick (Tina) Butz, Newhall; stepchildren, Michelle Johnson, Cedar Rapids, and Michael (Lisa) Johnson, Edwardsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Abbie (Jeremy) Springer, Blairstown; Molly Durkee, Cedar Rapids; Misty Butz, Saint Paul, Minn.; Tiffany Butz, Johnston; Nickolas (Megan) Butz, Cedar Falls; Morgan Butz, Newhall; Paige Butz, Cedar Rapids; step-grandchildren, Bobbie (Jeremy) Perrone, Karrin Trombley, Michael (Jessica) Trombley, Joseph Johnson and Clara Johnson; great-grandchildren, Levi Durkee, Cameron Springer, Nathan Allnutt, Madison Springer, Maliyah Durkee and DaNeka Marquina; step-great-grandchild, Aubrie Perrone; sisters, Earlene (Eldon) Stueck, Atkins; Linda Stark, Cedar Rapids; Sandra (Larry) Vetter, Larimore, N.D., and Mary (Steve) Noeller, Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Georgia Ruth Knapp.
