Phyllis Irene Jordan was born March 24, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William Minor and Edith Pearl (Taylor) Cram. She attended elementary schools in Conroy and North English and graduated from North English High School in 1943.

With a week of graduation, she married Leo E. Jordan, on June 5, 1943. She taught in the Pilot Grove and Green Valley elementary schools until the birth of her first child in 1945, and resumed teaching at the Green Valley Center rural school in 1957.

In 1960, the Jordan family moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she taught third grade and served for one year as principal at the Grace Brethren Christian Day School. In 1968, the couple moved 30 miles north of Phoenix to a five acre ranchette near New River, where they raised Peruvian Paso horses, as well as their third and most beloved “child,” a collie named Caesar.

During her lifetime, she also served many years as a Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school teacher and as a prayer warrior for her two children who served as missionaries in Taiwan. Her favorite project had become to welcome neighborhood children into her home weekly after school for Kid’s Bible Club and snacks.

Her one and only textbook for life was the Bible, which she had read from cover to cover nearly 60 times, covering six pages a day up until the last week of her life.

Jordan is survived by two children, Edwin (Eloise) Jordan, North English, and Connie Jordan, New River, Ariz., and Shanghai, China; sisters-in-law, Clara Jordan and Frances Christian, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in March 2005; her parents; one sister, Cleone Williams, and one brother, Marion Cram.
