William G. Ficken, Jr., age 77 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, November 15, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 21, 2013, Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, with Rev. David Renfro officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Williamsburg, Iowa. Memorials may be contributed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School in Cedar Rapids. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife Lillian, a son Gary and wife Sally, and a daughter Debbie Bills and husband Bill, all of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Brittany, Maddie and Sophie Ficken, and Megan and David Bills. Also surviving are two sisters, Lillian Johnson of Martelle, and Venita [Muller] of Clarinda; two brothers, Carl Ficken of Cedar Rapids and Edgar Ficken of Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Verona Schmidt and Elfrieda Folkmann, and a brother Victor Ficken.

William George “Bill” Ficken, Jr. was born May 23, 1936 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of William and Mary Steinke Ficken. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1953. Bill married Lillian Maas on December 27, 1959 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. The couple were blessed with two children, Gary and Debbie.

Bill was employed as manager at Tractor Supply Co. in Ottumwa. He then went to work as quality control superintendant for FMC Corp in Cedar Rapids. He moved to quality manager at Victor Manufacturing in Victor and lastly was quality director for Cedarapids Inc. in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1998.

Bill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, where in the past he served on the Board of Education, and was chairman and vice-chairman of the Congregation. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He volunteered at Mercy and St. Luke’s Hospitals, was involved with the Voters’ Election Services, and was a shuttle driver at the airport. He enjoyed reading, playing golf, yardwork and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the History Channel. He looked forward to his time with the Johnson Avenue Hy-Vee coffee group.
