Joseph Deutsch, 62

Celebration of life memorial service for Joseph F. Deutsch, 62, North English, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English. He died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

The Rev. Edwin Jordan officiated at the service.
He donated his body to the University of Iowa for research.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Joseph Francis Deutsch was born June 24, 1951, in New Hampton, the son of Francis and Marie (Friedhof) Deutsch. He graduated from New Hampton High School and attended Iowa State University and the University of Iowa.

He married Margaret Hochstatter Sept. 30, 1972, at St. Mary’s Church, New Hampton. To this union, three children were born. The couple were later divorced.

He met Linda Tippie in Parnell and they were together 31 years, marrying in April 2013. They made their home in the Parnell and Millersburg communities before moving to North English in 2004.

His many talents included woodworking, gardening, tree trimming and painting. He was generous with his talents and skills and placed great value on sharing them with his friends, neighbors and community. He loved working on his computer and enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, flea markets, camping and travel. He was a member of the Williamsburg Lions Club.

Deutsch is survived by his wife, Linda Tippie-Deutsch, North English; three children, Curtis Deutsch (Amy Hughes), Seattle, Wash., and Charis Deutsch and Ben Deutsch, both Portland, Ore.; stepson, Mark Schroeder, Convers, Texas; two grandchildren, Zia and Silas Deutsch Hughes, Seattle; step-grandchildren, Sammi (Michael) Chroe, Los Angeles, Calif., and Chandler and Nate Schroeder, and step-great-grandson, Bryson Schroeder, all Navarre, Fla.; siblings, Tom (Rosie) Deutsch, New Hampton; Bill Deutsch (Martha Davis), Decorah; Nancy Fanzen, New Hampton, and Neil (Pam) Deutsch, Urbandale, and numerous nieces, nephews and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
