Carroll L. Schafbuch, age 79 of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 20, 2013, Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom, Iowa. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn.

Memorials may be contributed to Grace United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice Compassus.

Carroll is survived by his wife Elaine, his three sons, Randy Lee (Vicki) of Gilbert, AZ, Rodney Carroll (Lori) and Ricky Allen (Daneen) all of Brooklyn; six grandchildren, Jennifer Callard (Andy) of Gilbert, AZ, Austin Schafbuch of Tempe, AZ, Lexi Schafbuch, Dylan Schafbuch, Alexis Lynd Schafbuch, and Logan Schafbuch all of Brooklyn, and a great-grandchild, Huxley Callard of Gilbert, AZ. Also surviving are two brothers, Gary (Joan) and Wayne (Terrie), all of Victor, IA, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Carroll Lee Schafbuch was born August 5, 1933 on a farm near Deep River, Iowa, the son of Harlan Jacob Schafbuch and Eileen Winnifred Goodman Schafbuch. He graduated from Victor High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1956, stationed in Korea.

Carroll married Elaine Arlene Blaess on August 31, 1958 at the Central Christian Church, in Boone, Iowa. The couple farmed in Iowa County for a time, and then purchased their first farm located west of Brooklyn in 1966.

His lifelong passion was farming, but he also enjoyed dancing and having a good time with his friends. Sunday evening dances were a favorite date night for Carroll and Elaine. His legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren. Carroll was a member of the Farm Bureau, Grace United Methodist Church, and the Malcom American Legion Post 733.
