Marian Harbert, 85 of Belle Plaine passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Belle Plaine. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Deep River Christian Church Disciples of Christ. Burial will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marian Harbert Memorial Fund.

Marian Lucille Harbert, the daughter of Harry and Edith (Griner) McCullough, was born on February 3, 1928 in Dayton Township in Iowa County. She attended country school in Dayton Township before graduating from Thornburg High School with the class of 1945. Marian received her Teacher's Certificate from William Penn University in Oskaloosa. On August 10, 1946, Marian was united in marriage to Walter Harbert at the Presbyterian Church in Deep River. To this union two children were born, Dan and Sally. Marian taught country school in the Montezuma and Guernsey areas for a couple of years before they had children. Marian was then a farmer's wife, raising the children and helping out on the farm when needed. After the children were old enough, Marian went to work for Gibson Savings Bank in Deep River and then later in Gibson. She was an excellent cook and baker; especially making her pies, cakes and various types of candies. Marian enjoyed sewing, attending dances, playing cards, reading and above all spending time with her family. She was a member of the Sunshine Sisters and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 66 years, Walter of Belle Plaine; her two children, Dan (Darla) Harbert of Ankeny and Sally (Loren) Hall of Millersburg; her six grandchildren, Marcus Harbert, Andrea Cerwinske, Shari Reed, Chris Harbert, Matt Harbert and Nick Harbert; her eight great grandchildren, Colin, Abigail, Emma, Ethan, Andrew, Ayden, Alexis and Miles; her sister-in-law, Joyce McCullough of Deep River and two brothers-in-law, Bob (Betty) Harbert of Stockton, IL and Tom (Joan) Harbert of Kokomo, IN.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Edith McCullough and two brothers, Allan and Keith McCullough.
