Norma K. Major, age 70 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Hartwick, Iowa, died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at her home.

There will be no visitation. Private Family Graveside services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be contributed to Hospice of Mercy, 315 18th Avenue, Hiawatha, IA. 52233. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.

Norma Kathylene Alden Major was born July 28, 1942 in rural Udell, Iowa, the daughter of Russell L. and A. Lucille Swaim Alden. She graduated from Moulton-Udell High School with the Class of 1960. She married Kenneth S. Major in 1962 at the Methodist Church in Unionville, Iowa. He died in November 2003.

Norma was a writer for the Centerville Iowegian newspaper, and worked with advertising for the Grinnell Pennysaver. She also was a dealer at the casino in Tama for a time.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing cards and cribbage, working word and number puzzle, and reading. Norma was a avid football fan and loved to watch any team play. But most importantly, Norma was a wife, mother, and grandmother and she cherished the time she could spend with her family.

Norma was a member of the Victor Methodist Church, a 4-H leader for the Warren Winners, and a camp counselor. She was a member of the Hartwick Fire Women, and also served as Hartwick town clerk.

Norma is survived by three daughters, Brenda Hinrichs (Jeff) of Guttenberg, Sheila Sonka (John) of Ellsworth, IL and Lorene Fiser (Rod) of Walford; six grandchildren, Josh Hinrichs of Guttenberg, Beth Hinrichs of Guttenberg, Tyler Sonka of Edwardsville, IL, Blake Sonka of Edwardsville, IL and Ashton and Zack Fiser of Walford; a great-granddaughter, Leah Hinrichs of Guttenberg; and two sisters, Maxine Burns (Norman) of Brooklyn and Alice Cox (Wayne) of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth and a brother Howard Alden.
