LaVerne Holub, 74

Memorial service for LaVerne F. Holub, 74, Amana, was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He died Nov. 20, 2012, at his home.

The Rev. Dr. Brian Sanders officiated at the service.

LaVerne F. Holub was born March 2, 1938, in Coggon, the son of Rose and Victor Holub. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960 and received the Air Force Commendation Medal.

He married Sandra Martin in 1960.

He later married Gerda Holub (Kinzenbaw), his best friend and loving wife.

He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR. He also enjoyed collecting antiques. Above all, he loved his family and will be dearly missed by his wife and the entire family.

Holub is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Gerda; his children and spouses, Terry Holub, Marta and Brian Philiph, Cheryl Holub, Douglas and Brenda Holub, Kim and Mark McIntosh, Kathy and Bruce Burke, Kully and Lisa Kinzenbaw; grandchildren and spouses, Joshua Holub, Jessica Holub and Jeff Hupfeld, Garrett Lehr, Tanner Lehr, Austin Lehr, Kaylee Holub, Shelly and Joseph Koehn, Shayna and Nick Janda, Jakob Kinzenbaw, Sara Rose Kinzenbaw and Mack and Felicia Willits; one great-grandson, Evan Koehn, and one sister, Darlene Wichman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy Holub and Eugene Holub, and one sister, Regina Rickels.
