Florence Stanerson, 93

Celebration of life service for Florence Stanerson, 93, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Andrew Gray officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery. Casket bearers were her nephews, Dennis Latcham, Randy Latcham and Craig Latcham, all Montezuma; Mike Latcham, Newton; Allen Latcham, Lynnville; David Latcham, Grinnell, and Raymond Latcham, Tucson, Ariz.

A memorial fund has been established.

Florence Stanerson was born Oct. 20, 1919, near Grinnell, the daughter of Howard and C. Annetta Olson Latcham. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1937 and taught country school in Pleasant Township, Poweshiek County. Later, she taught in the country school at Koszta the last three years before it closed.

She married Wayne Stanerson June 5, 1940, at the Methodist church parsonage in Grinnell. The couple farmed near Koszta from 1947 to 1962, before moving to Marengo.

She and Fern Timm owned and operated the Home Decorating Center, Marengo, for 13 years. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild, was an honorary 4-H member and Marengo Golf Club member, as well as a member of the Marengo Chamber of Commerce.

She enjoyed her family, cooking, sewing, golfing and was known for the fall craft bazaars held in her home for 17 years.

Stanerson is survived by one daughter, Karen and Harold Joseph, Williamsburg; one son, Ron and Mary Jane Stanerson, Marengo; nine grandchildren, Rod and Sandy Joseph, Williamsburg; Denise and Randy Stewart, Odessa, Texas; Kris and Jerry Gerard, Iowa City; Amy Schuerer, Amana; Mike and Kelly Joseph, North Liberty; Mark and Leslie Ealy, Chandler, Ariz.; Eric and Joan Ealy, Orlando, Fla.; Kirk Ealy and wife Gretchen Theus, West Chester, Ohio, and Clint and Jenn Stanerson, Mt. Vernon; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gail and Iona Latcham, Montezuma, and Lyle John and Dorothy Latcham, Grinnell, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2001; her parents; one brother, Merle Latcham; a great-grandson, Colton Crawford, and twin great-granddaughters, Lauren and Emma Stanerson.
