A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor, Iowa, with Rev. Michael Fink officiating. Vocalist will be Kenny and Shelley Folkmann, organist Carol Alba. Casket bearers will be Jeff Cordes, Kenneth Cordes, Kevin Cordes, Scott Bybee, Dan Bybee, and Mark Perez.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be at the Victor Memorial Cemetery.

Carolyn Hope Strong Cordes, daughter of Claire and Muriel Strong was born December 29, 1921.
Carolyn moved with her family to Iowa about the time she started to school. At the age of twelve she repented of sin and asked Jesus to be her savior. She graduated from high school in Washington, Iowa with the class of 1940. After two years of college she began teaching at the Guernsey high school. She married Darrel William Cordes on September 8, 1945. In Bloomfield, Iowa. They resided on the Cordes farm west of Guernsey until 1070 when they moved to Victor.

Carolyn was an active member of the Victor Baptist Church. She and her husband lived in Phoenex and Sun City, Arizona where the they were also members of the Palmcroft Baptist Church. Carolyn moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 2004 and became a member of Harvy Oaks Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Diane (Howard) Brooks of Chandler, Arizona, Marvin (Carmen) Cordes of Guernsey, Janice (Michael) Fink of Henderson, Nebraska, Miriam (Bill) Bybee of Omaha; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wilma Watkins; and nieces and nephews.

Carolyn died on Sunday, October 21, 2012. In Elkhorn, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by parents; sister Rachel Strong and Marjorie Hebron; husband Darrel in 2003, daughter, Hope Cordes; granddaughter, Kristan Fink; grandson, Eric Brooks; and great grandson, Gannon Brooks.
