Oren Travis Jr., 90

Funeral mass for Oren W. “Bill” Travis Jr., 90, Cedar Rapids, was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. He died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Crestview Acres.

The Rev. Philip Thompson officiated at the service.

Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, was in charge of arrangements. Messages may be left at www.cedarmemorial.com.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Oren William Travis Jr. was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Oren and Anne (Harrington) Travis Sr. He married Marjorie F. Lillis June 7, 1947, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He was a meat cutter for the Piggly Wiggly and Eagles food stores. He was a member of St. Pisu X Catholic Church, a Scout master and served in the Army during World War II.

He enjoyed playing cards, playing golf and traveling with his wife. They later retired and lived in Tucson, Ariz.

He was a lighthearted gentleman with a constant smile who brightened everyone’s day. He always offered a helpful hand to anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed.

Travis is survived by his son, John and Lorraine Travis; a grandson, Steven Travis; a granddaughter, Leah Travis (and Easton Ayers); a great-granddaughter, Evaiah Elizabeth Ayers, all Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Renee Reilly, Margie O’Connell and Mary and Ken Goodell, all Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
