Ruby Humphrey, 90

Celebration of life service for Ruby L. Humphrey, 90, Williamsburg, was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Millersburg United Methodist Church. She died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at the Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg.

The Rev. Michelle Williamson officiated at the service. Organist Catherine Shaull played “How Great Thou Art.” Vocalist Peggy Wardenburg sang “Because He Lives.”

Burial was in the Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River. Casket bearers were Ken Boeke, Roger Davis, Nicholas Martin, Robert Niman, Brian Swain, Terry Schwarting and David Walzach.

Memorials may be made to the Millersburg United Methodist Church.

Ruby Luella Humphrey was born Feb. 5, 1922, in rural North English, the daughter of Floyd and Edna (Miller) Davis. She attended North English schools and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1940. She lived in Iowa County throughout her lifetime.

She married Dean Paul Humphrey Feb. 16, 1941, in Sigourney. She helped her husband on the farm, was a cook for Millersburg schools and worked as a one-on-one coordinator at the Iowa County Care Facility.

She was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.

She was co-founder of the Neighborhood Coffee Club. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, sewing and baking, especially pies.

Humphrey is survived by her husband, Dean, Williamsburg; two daughters, Deanna and Ken Boeke, Mooresville, Ind., and SuzAnne Boyle, Cedar Rapids; a special niece, Nancy Swain, Williamsburg; 15 grandchildren; numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Kay Davis, Fairfield, and Edith Humphrey, North English.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a special nephew, David Byram; two sisters, Etta Young and Elva Niman; two brothers, Melvin Davis and Vaughn Davis (in infancy), and sons-in-law, Ed Boyle and Lloyd Swain.
