Gloria Schumacher, 72

Memorial services for Gloria L. Schumacher, 72, Marengo, were held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer. Per her wishes, her body was donated to science.

Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established.

Gloria Lee Schumacher was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Pittsfield, Ill., the daughter of Howard and Alice Tucker Hayes. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1958.

She married Larry Schumacher Aug. 26, 1961, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo. She was employed as secretary for the Iowa Valley Schools for many years. She also served as secretary for the Iowa Valley School Board.

She was an avid reader in her free time. She also cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

Schumacher is survived by her husband, Larry; one son, Vance and Adrienne, Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Serena and Erik Brueggemeyer, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Austin and Emily Schumacher and Tyler and Brayden Brueggemeyer; her mother, Alice Hayes, Marengo; one sister, Elaine and Gary Cooney, Hudson, and one sister-in-law, Florence Hayes, Belle Plaine.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, John.
