Clarence Brecht, 81

Funeral services for Clarence D. Brecht, 81, Marengo, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at his home.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown, with military honors by Marengo American Legion Post 76.

A memorial fund has been established.

Clarence David Brecht was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Norway, the son of Andrew and Lena Becker Brecht. He attended Honey Creek School in Iowa County.

He married Charlotte Lenton in 1952 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Blairstown. The couple later divorced.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed in Korea. Upon his return, he was employed for many years at Amana Refrigeration, Middle Amana.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo, and Marengo American Legion Post 76.

Brecht is survived by his children, Debra Hadenfeldt and John Scott, Coralville, and Dexter Brecht, Hudson, Fla.; two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Hadenfeldt and Jennifer Hadenfeldt and Tim Ulferts, all Cedar Rapids; five great-grandchildren, Noah Ulferts, Ashlyn Kromminga, Michael, Grace and Madison Hadenfeldt; one sister, Karen Shafer, Des Moines; two special nephews, Rick and Brandy Klever and Terry Brecht, all Marengo; a special friend, Geneva Robinson; Charlotte Brecht, and several other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clarence David, and two brothers, Andrew Brecht and Leroy Brecht.
