Obituary.

Died. On May 10, at Williamsburg, Iowa, Mr. Thomas Boyle, aged 71 years and 1 month. Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 12 at St. Mary's Church, Rev. Father Kissane officiating. Interment at St. Michael's Cemetery, Holbrook, Iowa.

Mr. Thomas Boyle was born in County Louth, Ireland, April 10, 1830. His parents emigrated to America when he was three years old and settled near Chillicothe, Ohio. His lot in life was like that of many other sons of poor but honest and industrious parents. At the age of fifteen he was doing a man's work. In 1847 he enlisted as a private in the 2nd Ohio Infantry under Col. Irwin and endured all the hardships of a soldier in fighting for his country in the land of the Montezumas. In 1848, having been mustered out of the military service, he came to Greene township, Ia. to carve for himself a home out of the then limitless and boundless West. On the farm he first entered he lived until March of this year when he moved to Williamsburg, Iowa.

In 1856 he was married to Miss Ann Carney, who, together with four children, survives the loss of a kind husband and father. Mr. Boyle was a good citizen; public spirited and ever anxious to advance the condition of his community. Of a genial and kindly nature he was loved and honored by all who knew him and his hand was ever ready to lend help to the distressed. There is no higher test of character than that shown by the actions of a man towards his wife and family; and in this respect Mr. Boyle was the Sir Gallahad of husbands and fathers, none living more idolized a family than did Thomas Boyle; could he add to its pleasure by ever so little, could he increase its happiness by even a jot, it was enough to fill his big kind heart with all the music of Summer.

Men knew Mr. Boyle and trusted him for his upright honesty. Twice he was elected to the office of Sheriff and twice he filled it with honor. Four years ago he was stricken with paralysis, and the strength of his sturdy frame withstood the shock until the May of this year, when the benumbing tendency spread to other portions, finally resulting in the dissolution of soul and body. The remains were followed by a vast concourse of friends to St. Michael's cemetery at Holbrook, where they were laid away beside those of his children who went before him. The Journal tribune extends to the bereaved family its sincerest sympathy in this, the sad hour of its affliction.
