Obituary.

Edward D. Roberts, aged 71 years, died at North English on Monday last. These few words indicate the close of the life of another of Troy township's contingents in the war of the Rebellion.

Mr. Roberts was a native of Massachusetts and moved to Troy township Iowa Co., Iowa, in 1855. He enlisted for service in the Civil war in Co. G, 28th Iowa in August 1862 and served faithfully until the close of the war, being a participant in all the important engagements in which his regiment took part -- From Port Gibson to Cedar Creek and receiving a wound and being captured by the rebels at Sabine Cross Road, La., April 8, 1864.

About two months ago he removed to North English to spend the closing days of a life which was characterized by many commendable traits. Rev. Chew, of North English, conducted the funeral services, assisted by Rev. Pike, a squad of the Old Boys from this place attended the funeral and served as pall bearers. The remains were interred in the Pilot Grove cemetery, according to the ritual of the G. A. R., of which organization he was a member.

A widow and two sons, Thos. A. and Chas., and three sisters, two of them, Mrs. B. Cook and Mrs. E. R. Dill, being residents of Troy township are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband, father and brother. Another of the Boys in Blue has fought his last battle and responded to the last roll call.
